The owner of a North Miami apartment complex faces a lawsuit from his tenants after a December storm caused a roof collapse.

Gold King Apartments, owned by Shlomo Chelminsky, has been sued by 11 current and former tenants for an unspecified amount that should exceed $100,000, the Miami Herald reported. The Dec. 26 roof collapse displaced the tenants for nearly three weeks and damaged apartment interiors. Legal Services of Greater Miami, Florida Legal Services and law firm Hernandez Lee are representing the tenants.

According to the complaint, Chelminsky was aware of the damage to the 13285 Northeast Sixth Avenue complex but did not act quickly enough to make repairs. He did not respond to requests from attorneys to repair the damage within a week.

The Herald was unable to reach Chelminsky for comment. [Miami Herald]Eric Kalis
