Casa Casuarina, the storied former mansion of Italian fashion designer Gianni Versace, will open to members of the media on Tuesday for a tour of the property and briefing on its upcoming bankruptcy auction.

First listed for $125 million, then dropped to $75 million, the auction, scheduled for Sept. 17, was the latest move to offload the mansion, which is ensnared in foreclosure and civil suits.

“There are a lot of moving parts and I think prospective buyers didn’t realize they could get clear title to the property,” listing agent Jill Eber of the broker team The Jills told The Real Deal.

Bidders will need to deposit $3 million into escrow and show proof of funds of $40 million to make a play for the estate, where Versace was gunned down by a crazed fan in 1997.

Fisher Auction Co. will handle the sale along with The Jills, and has scheduled it to take place at 10 a.m. Sept. 17 at the storied Versace mansion. — Emily Schmall
