A new Florida law could pave the way for the creation of Miami’s version of New York’s Central Park, the Miami Herald reported.
The legislation, which Miami Commission Chairman Marc Sarnoff helped draft in Tallahassee, would allow the city to establish a non-profit conservancy that would operate and maintain the park’s fundraising and horticulture.
“This law gives us the ability to create [New York’s] Central Park in Miami,” Sarnoff told the Herald. “It could be something really special.”
The law will apply to Museum Park, currently under construction where Bicentennial Park once stood, off Biscayne Boulevard just south of the MacArthur Causeway. It will share the 28-acre site with the new art and science museums and sit adjacent to the Zaha Hadid proposed condo tower, 1000 Museum. [Miami Herald] –Emily Schmall
