Palmetto Bay task force proposes Downtown makeover

A volunteer group of urban planners, bankers and architects proposed last month a massive redevelopment of the Downtown area of Palmetto Bay, a suburban village outside of Miami.

The project would create shops, restaurants, offices and condominiums from Southwest 184th Street to 168th Street, spanning from U.S. 1 East to Southwest 91st Court, 93rd Avenue and 93rd Place. Palmetto Bay Village Hall requested in May that the 40-member task force compose a specific plan. Ed Silva, director of the Department of Building and Capital Projects in Palmetto Bay, serves as the task force’s staff adviser.

The village council allotted $2.8 million of the fiscal year’s budget in September toward the project, but later withdrew a request to spend $40,000 on a traffic impact analysis. [Miami Herald]Mark Maurer
