Heeding residents’ concerns, Jupiter officials has axed plans to erect a three-story, 600-space parking garage as part of the “funky fishing village” project.

Instead, the town might instead develop an outdoor parking lot on A1A, near the Jupiter Inlet. Local business owners complained that a garage – expected to cost $8 million – would add excessive noise and traffic.

On Jan. 7, the Jupiter town council is slated to weigh building a 300-space outdoor lot, and then vote on it two weeks later.

In July, Community Redevelopment Agency in Jupiter released details about the $5 million project. Under the proposal, Inlet Village will be a pedestrian-friendly retail promenade outfitted with on-street parking, sidewalks on both sides, new street lights, 4-foot-wide bicycle paths and marked crosswalks.
