Burt Reynolds and Jupiter Farms
Major residential builder K. Hovnanian Homes has received an initial go-ahead to double the number of houses allowed on the Burt Reynolds Ranch in Palm Beach County.
The New Jersey-based developer got unanimous approval to construct up to 30 homes on the 153-acre ranch from the Palm Beach County Planning Commission on Friday, the Palm Beach Post reported. Only 15 residences are currently allowed on the Jupiter Farms Road property.
County commissioners are expected to take up the development proposal in early 2014. The planning commission’s vote is used to guide the full commission but is not binding.
The county’s school district purchased the ranch from the popular actor for nearly $4 million in 1999 with original plans to construct a middle school on the property. It agreed in April to sell the ranch to K. Hovnanian for $5 million. The sale would close once the county approves and land-use and zoning changes. [Palm Beach Post] — Eric Kalis
