Palm Beach County commissioners signed off yesterday on rezoning that will pave the way for 2,000 houses to be built on Palm Beach Aggregrates’ 1,200 acres.
The Highland Dunes development in West Palm Beach would create 50,000 square feet of retail or commercial buildings and a 970-student elementary school. The project is slated to begin construction next summer.
Residents opposing the project wore yellow “Save Our Rural Neighborhood” stickers at yesterday’s meeting. They expressed concerns over traffic and potential strain of the area’s drainage systems, the Palm Beach Post reported. The commission voted 6-1, backing Highland Dunes on the condition that it is scaled down to nine lots.
