The Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau hopes to attract more tourists to Broward County with a $6.5 million advertising campaign, the largest yet for the bureau.

To capitalize on the area’s key demographics, the bureau will run TV promos in Latin America, and have images from Fort Lauderdale Beach stream on screens at Grand Central Station in Manhattan. In the 2012 budget year, more than 700,000 of the 12.04 million total visitors to Broward were from Brazil, Colombia and Argentina and other parts of Latin America, the Sun-Sentinel reported.

Last year, a total of 12 million tourists brought $9.8 billion in revenue to the county, a record on both fronts, as previously reported.

“With 46 consecutive months of visitor growth and an 8 percent increase in tourist tax collections, we are on target to welcome 13 million visitors by December 2013 spending $10 billion,” Nicki E. Grossman, bureau president, said in a statement. [Sun-Sentinel]Mark Maurer
