The potential closure of the high-end steak-and-seafood restaurant Chart House in Coconut Grove is the latest site to spark a debate over preservation.

Miami’s redevelopment plan has prompted the forthcoming demolition of fellow long-standing restaurant Scotty’s Landing. Next door is Chart House at 50 Chart House Drive, could be next. It is known for its organic modernist architecture, particularly the big plate-glass windows peer out into Biscayne Bay.

Last summer, the city issued requests for proposals seeking new operators for Scotty’s Landing, at 3385 Pan American Drive, and a 1.34-acre property that includes Chart House, as previously reported. One proposal calls for a waterfront dining area to replace both restaurants. [Curbed]Mark Maurer
