When starchitect Zaha Hadid is hired to design a sales center for a condo tower, it’s a safe bet that the finished product will not resemble anything else in the market.
The $1 million sales center for the 1000 Museum Tower opened Friday night with a lavish party, Miami Herald reported. Iraqi-born Hadid designed the 1040 Biscayne Boulevard center, which includes a spinning hologram of the tower, angular furniture from Hadid’s own line and high-definition video screens. It reminds some observers of a modern science fiction or alien movie set.
Construction of 1000 Museum is scheduled to begin in the middle of next year. Unit prices start at $5 million.
Hadid, a rare example of a prolific female architect in a male-dominated industry, is also designing a parking garage in Miami Beach. [Miami Herald] — Eric Kalis
