Miami-Dade running low on sand supplies

Miami-Dade beach replenishment

Miami-Dade beach replenishment

The Army Corps of Engineers says Miami-Dade is running out of sand to supply its beaches and the county is looking for new places to harvest sand, WLRN reported.

The county currently replenishes its eroded beaches with offshore supplies of sand. The corps, who conducted a study on Florida’s sand needs, is looking for supplies further offshore, even in other countries, the public radio news affiliate said.

The corps is holding public meetings every day this week in different South Florida locations. [WLRN]Emily Schmall
